Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the more common questions and answers. If you have any other questions please contact us.

CAN MY DAUGHTER PLAY?

Yes, our program is dedicated to boys and girls grades 1st-8th.

WHO CAN PLAY?

Any boys or girls in the Forest Hills Central District in grade kindergarten- 8th. Kids in district attending other schools without a youth lacrosse program may also play.

IS LACROSSE A DANGEROUS SPORT?

As is with all sports the risk of injury is a possibility. In a recent study on injuries in youth sports, lacrosse had a fewer percentage of injuries than football, ice hockey, soccer, wrestling, and cheerleading.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO WE NEED?

See the USA Lacrosse Equipment Guide for details.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Fees vary according to grade and the amount of involvement. See the registration page for cost details.

DO WE HAVE TO TRAVEL?

The majority of our play will surround the Grand Rapids area. You can also expect 2-3 weekend events that may involve in-state travel.

For those trying out and playing on our Tournament teams, you can expect some overnights and to be playing some weekends with many being out of town.

If travel is an issue, there are always other families happy to help.

HOW ARE THE TEAMS SPLIT?

Teams are split by grade levels. K-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Grade level team groupings will be evenly divided, provided we have more than two. We will also have Tournament Teams at the 3/4 and 5/6 levels.

WHAT IS THE TOURNAMENT TEAM?

The tournament team is a high-level travel lacrosse team. This team has an additional fee of $100 and does require travel and play on most weekends. This team will hold tryouts during spring practices before the season opens.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON PLAYING TIME?

Obviously playing time is always an issue. On our house teams, our goal is to have equal playing time for all kids. We emphasize this over winning games. While this is always our goal, it does not always work out that way. If playing time is an issue you are encouraged to speak to your coach (away from the kids) and or contact a board member.

Our tournament teams and 7/8 are slightly different. These are designed to be highly competitive teams with the intent of winning while learning. We will always try to be fair in overall playing time but when the situations dictate, we will do what is necessary to win the game.

DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?

Yes, we do offer the ability to request a full or partial scholarship. If you are in need, please visit our SCHOLARSHIP PAGE and fill out the request form.
